چکیده

We consider a new network design problem that generalizes the Hop and Diameter Constrained Minimum Spanning and Steiner Tree Problem as follows: given an edge-weighted undirected graph whose nodes are partitioned into a set of root nodes, a set of terminals and a set of potential Steiner nodes, find a minimum-weight subtree that spans all the roots and terminals so that the number of hops between each relevant node and an arbitrary root does not exceed a given hop limit H . The set of relevant nodes may be equal to the set of terminals, or to the union of terminals and root nodes. This paper presents theoretical and computational comparisons of flow-based vs. path-based mixed integer programming models for this problem. Disaggregation by roots is used to improve the quality of lower bounds of both models. To solve the problem to optimality, we implement branch-and-price algorithms for all proposed formulations. Our computational results show that the branch-and-price approaches based on path formulations outperform the flow formulations if the hop limit is not too loose.

Hop constrained Steiner trees with multiple root nodes

We consider a network design problem that generalizes the hop and diameter constrained Steiner tree problem as follows: Given an edge-weighted undirected graph with two disjoint subsets representing roots and terminals, find a minimum-weight subtree that spans all the roots and terminals so that the number of hops between each relevant node and an arbitrary root does not exceed a given hop limi...

Hop Constrained Connected Facility Location

The Connected Facility Location (ConFL) problem combines facility location and Steiner trees: given a set of customers, a set of potential facility locations and some inter-connection nodes, ConFL searches for the minimum-cost way of assigning each customer to exactly one open facility, and connecting the open facilities via a Steiner tree. The costs needed for building the Steiner tree, facili...

Layered Graph Approaches to the Hop Constrained Connected Facility Location Problem

Given a set of customers, a set of potential facility locations and some inter-connection nodes, the goal of the Connected Facility Location problem (ConFL) is to find the minimum-cost way of assigning each customer to exactly one open facility, and connecting the open facilities via a Steiner tree. The sum of costs needed for building the Steiner tree, facility opening costs and the assignment...

Modelling the Hop Constrained Connected Facility Location Problem on Layered Graphs

Gouveia et al. [3] show how to model the Hop Constrained Minimum Spanning tree problem as Steiner tree problem on a layered graph. Following their ideas, we provide three possibilities to model the Hop Constrained (HC) Connected Facility Location problem (ConFL) as ConFL on layered graphs. We show that on all three layered graphs the respective LP relaxations of two cut based models are of the ...

Distributed Constrained Steiner Tree Algorithm for Jointly Conserving Energy and Bounding Delay in Ad hoc Multicast Routing

The minimum-energy multicast tree problem aims to construct a multicast tree rooted at the source node and spanning all the destination nodes such that the sum of transmission power at non-leaf nodes is minimized. However, aggressive power assignment at non-leaf nodes, although conserving more energy, results in multicast trees which suffer from higher hop count and jeopardizes delay-sensitive ...
